Battle Lake

Dennis Jones, 82 of rural Battle Lake died Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Veterans Medical Center in Fargo.

Dennis Barry Jones was born on May 10, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota the son of Herschel and Helen (Neumeyer) Jones.  He attended the Grand Rapids Public School, then enlisted for four years with the US Navy serving on an Auxiliary Ship on the Mediterranean. He then served three years with the US Army in Germany as a driver for the General.  He was proud of his service.

He met the love of his life, Diane Elaine Bunes and they married on August 21, 1965.  Dennis and Diane lived most of their years in Deephaven, where they raised their two daughters Dana and Debbie. Dennis volunteered at the Minnetonka High School and led a support group.  In the cities he was active with AA and would lead groups and speak.  He was employed with White Motors and Grace Lutheran Church.  In 1999, they purchased Three Seasons Lodge on Otter Tail Lake with daughter Debbie and son-in-law Paul, which they operated until retiring in 2013.   During the winters, from 2000 to 2013, they enjoyed volunteering with Roving Volunteers In Christ's Service (RVICS).  After 2013, Denny and Diane wintered in Smithville, Texas.

Dennis and Diane enjoyed exploring Texas with his sister Becky. Dennis liked playing Texas Hold 'em with friends.  He loved fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Battle Lake Alliance Church where he was an elder for many years and helped with AWANA.  He also served as a board member of the Otter Tail Water Management District.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Diane; two daughters, Dana (Hans) Wothe of Frazee and Debra (Paul) Ness of Battle Lake; six grandchildren, Lauren (Steven) McDonough, Cassandra (Cory) Woods, Benjamin Korsmo, Dawson Ness, Morgan Ness and Madison Ness and several great grandchildren; and siblings, Helen Edoff of Pompano Beach, FL, Rebecca Curless of San Antonio, TX, Kathy Brossard of Hayward, CA, Roger Brown of Calumet, Roy Brown of Dayton, Rodney (Cynthia) Brown of Rochester and Richard (Linda) Brown of Troutdale, OR; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel Jones and Helen (Jones) Brown; and six siblings, Judy, Robert, John, Terry, Patricia and Cindy.

Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 22, 2021, at the Battle Lake Alliance Church.

Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 PM, with a Time of Sharing at 6:30 PM, at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake.

Military Honors: Minnesota National Honor Guard

Interment: Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND
