Dale M. Rieken

Dale Myron Rieken, 88, Fergus Falls, died Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Lake Region Hospital, Fergus Falls, Minnesota

Dale was born November 12, 1935, at home in Everts Township, rural Battle Lake to William and Bertha (Albertson) Rieken.  He was baptized and confirmed at Tingvold Lutheran Church, Underwood.  Dale attended District 71 in Tordenskjold township and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1954.

Dale worked in landscaping for two years before going on to the Regional Treatment Center as a Human Services technician beginning in 1957, retiring in 1998 after 41 years of service.

Dale and Janice Bowman were married at Grue Lutheran Church in 1958 and were married for 65 years.

In his early years he enjoyed fishing and hunting.  Dale wrote books Rieken’s Lifetime Collection of Knowledge and Nonsense in 2002. In 2022 he wrote A Collection of Rieken’s Writhen* Written Ramblings. (*Writhen: twisted or contorted out of normal shape or form.)  He was knowledgeable of nature, birds, and history.  He enjoyed the home farm, liked to visit, have coffee with friends and tell jokes.

Dale is survived by his wife Janice of Fergus Falls; son, Loren Rieken of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Jeremy Dorn of Fergus Falls, Micah (Laura Kielb) Rieken of Underwood, and Tyson Rieken of Underwood; great-grandchildren, Abby Dorn of Fergus Falls and Katie Dorn of East Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Bertha (Albertson) Rieken; infant son, Lowell Rieken; daughter, Lori Dorn; brother, William Rieken and sisters Elain Fossan and LaVella Nelson.

Memorial Service:11 AM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls with visitation one hour prior to the service.
