Betty Lee Peterson, 81, of Battle Lake, Minnesota, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 11, 2013.
Betty Lee Peterson was born on May 2, 1932 in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. She was the only child of George and Marie (Dahlen) Knull. Betty was a lifelong sports fan and participated in many activities at the high school level such as basketball, marching band, and choir. Her other hobbies included crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, and taking care of her dogs. She was employed in various jobs outside the home during her lifetime, most recently as a teller at the First National Bank of Battle Lake. Betty married Jack G. Peterson, also of Columbia Heights, at the age of twenty. They made their home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where Jack worked at Montgomery Wards. They also lived in Blaine, MN, Mason City, Iowa, and near Ottertail Lake before settling in Battle Lake for her retirement years. Betty was the beloved mother of six children, who will best remember her for her quick wit, outdoorsy spirit and love of her family.
Betty was preceded in death by an infant son, Corey, her parents, Marie and George Knull, her son Craig Peterson, her infant granddaughter Jennifer Stulz, and her husband Jack G. Peterson. She is survived by daughter Julie (Rick) Stulz of Farmington, MN, son Jack (Christine) Peterson of Coon Rapids, MN, son Brian Peterson, and son Scott (Connie) Peterson of Fargo, ND. Surviving grandchildren are Rob (Colleen) Stulz, Jeffrey Stulz, David Peterson, Brian Peterson, Tasha (Don) Lee, Corey (Marce) Peterson, Andrea McClain, Ben McClain, Scott Michael Peterson, Matthew Peterson and Sarah Peterson. Betty also had 12 great grandchildren.
Closed casket funeral services will be held at First Lutheran Church of Battle Lake at 1:00 on Thursday, August 15, 2013 with Rev. Jake Dyrhaug officiating. There will be a luncheon following the service at the church. Burial will be on Friday, August 16 at 12:35 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
