With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Bernice Marie Ballweber, age 81, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Dickinson, ND. She departed this life on April 19, 2025.
Born on October 27, 1943, in Dickinson, ND, Bernice was the daughter of Laudie and Bessie (Jilek) Sykora. Bernice received her education in the Dickinson area culminating with a teaching degree from Dickinson State University.
On November 22, 1965, Bernice and Roger Ballweber were united in marriage at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Together, they built a family, raising three children: Rory, Mike, and Michelle. Their journey took them to Reeder, ND, Sidney, MT, Dickinson, ND, and finally, to Fergus Falls, MN, where they created lasting roots.
Bernice dedicated herself to a career that included education, nursing and professional roles. Beyond her work, Bernice had a curious and creative mind, enjoying crossword puzzles, gardening, baking and holiday decorating. She also found great pleasure in attending concerts and enthusiastically supporting her grandsons in their various sports activities.
Bernice's memory will be cherished by her children: Rory (Karen) Ballweber of Eagan, MN, Mike (Toni) Ballweber of Bluffton, SC, and Michelle (Brad) Danielson of Fergus Falls, MN; her four grandchildren: Ben Ballweber, Brady (Vivian) Ballweber, Connor (Kaitlyn) Danielson, and Caleb (Elizabeth) Danielson; her sister, Georgie (Vince) Hibl of Dickinson, ND and her sisters and brothers-in-law: Lorraine Sykora of Dickinson, ND, Delphine Ballweber of Wahpeton, ND, Cleo Ballweber of Scranton, ND, and Doug Ballweber of Elgin, ND, along with numerous beloved nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Laudie and Bessie Sykora; her husband, Roger Ballweber; her sister, Irene Kessel; her brother, Laudie Sykora Jr.; and many sisters and brothers-in-law.
A Liturgy of the Word funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28, at 2:00 P.M., at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial will take place at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND this summer.
Memorials will be donated to the Fergus Falls Cancer Center or the Hope Lodge in Minneapolis.
