Arlynn Edward Johnson was born April 3, 1938, at the home of his parents, Theodore and Bendetta (Hanson) Johnson, in Urness Township. In his early years he attended country school at District 49 to eighth grade and then to Evansville Public School where he graduated.
In his younger years, he was very active in 4H & FFA. He began his farming & harvesting career, also at a young age. Windrowing grain, chopping silage and picking corn with a single row and then to a two-row picker.
Arlynn married Joyce Carlson in 1956, and they made their home on the “south” farm. Brent, Shawn and Lance were born to this union. In the mid 1980’s they moved to Evansville.
In 1960, Arlynn began his custom harvesting, traveling to Oklahoma to follow the wheat harvest to the north. The business expanded with adding more combines as his sons grew up. These experiences and people he met on the harvest trail shaped many lives.
In addition to the farm and harvest, Arlynn had many projects. He and his brother Deloyd had Johnson Implement in Evansville during the 60’s & 70’s, selling John Deere and Ski-Doo. He was one of the charter owners of Viking Savings in Alexandria and continued on the board for many years. Later in 2009, he purchased the now named Evansville Care Campus. He was active in its business and residents and staff till the end.
In February 2009, Arlynn married Susan Lee. They lived outside Evansville and eventually moved near the Care Campus where he and Sue helped maintain the business operations and grounds of the Care Campus. When they had time off, they loved to spend time traveling with their RV-visiting old friends, parks and check on the harvest crews. He also loved to watch the semis roll buy from their home in Evansville and often would recognize a few “Johnson trucks” and “Joes trucks”. When they could find free time, Sue and Arlynn enjoyed going to the cabin, where they found peace and quiet, away from the city. He enjoyed old tractors and threshing shows. Also, he liked having coffee at the local cafe and visiting with other farmers and neighbors. He often could be found visiting with residents and staff at the Care Campus.
Arlynn passed away on May 20th, surrounded by his family at Lake Region Hospital in Elbow Lake, MN. His passing was a result of respiratory failure; 87 years of wheat dust will do that. Uff da.
Arlynn is survived by his wife, Susan. His sons, Brent (Debra), Shawn (Rachel), and Lance (Heidi). Stepsons, Dennis (Laurie) Lee and Douglas (Brenda) Lee. Grandchildren Donald, Jana (Michael), Leah (Landon), Trey (Kyle), Tanner (Emily), Ty, Tucker, Tenley, Elizabeth, Kali (Brock), Jaime (Tim), Annika, Abby, Donell and Autumn (Zach). Great grandchildren, Paige (David), Kylie, Emma and Ella. Great-great grandchildren, Braelyn and Bentley.
Arlynn was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Bendetta Johnson, First wife Joyce Johnson, Brother Deloyd, Sister Suzann, Sisters-in-law Lorraine and Valerie, Brother-in-law Ron Nelson.
