Alan Victor Loken, age 81, of Maple Plain, Minnesota, passed away on October 25, 2025.
He was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, on October 27, 1943, to Alphild and Victor Loken and grew up in Battle Lake, Minnesota, where he graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1961.
He attended Fergus Falls Junior College for two years before earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota in 1966. On March 19, 1966, Alan married Margaret Wright of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Alan spent most of his career working as a pension actuary (for 18 years), later applying his skills to grading standardized tests for a Twin Cities publishing company.
Alan was a devoted fan of all Minnesota sports teams, loved The Beach Boys and bluegrass music, and shared a lifelong friendship with Kenneth Twete from childhood until Kenneth’s passing in 2003, creating many fond memories along the way. He enjoyed exploring national and local parks, most recently the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and took annual trips to the North Shore, visiting favorite food stops along the way. Alan cherished time at the Minnesota State Fair, enjoying tractors, live music, and Tiny Tim Donuts. Earlier in life, he also enjoyed duck hunting.
Alan loved homemade foods made by family, including carrot cake made by his wife Margaret and meatballs made by his mother Alphild. He had a lifelong love of cars, often recalling special moments in life based on the vehicles he or others owned at the time. He was especially proud of his ’63 Chevy Impala and his ’91 Toyota Camry, which he drove for nearly 400,000 miles, a testament to his care and dedication.
Alan is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; children, Cheryl (John), Deborah, and Christopher; grandchildren, John, Anthony, and Penelope; siblings, Jean (Phil) and Jerry; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation for personal friends and family will take place on November 4, 2025, from 11AM – 1 PM, at Glende-Nilson funeral home in Battle Lake, MN, followed by a private family graveside service.
