Joyce Boettger

April 28, 1930 — April 5, 2018

Joyce Boettger, 87, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Joyce Elenore was born April 28, 1930, in Erdahl Township, Grant County, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Grace (Alvstad) Quernemoen. She graduated from Elbow Lake High School and went on to work at Gillette Hospital in the Twin Cities as a nurse’s aide.

On July 5, 1953, Joyce married John Boettger at First Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. Joyce continued to work as a nurse’s aide in Fergus Falls for several more years. When Joyce and John made their home on the Boettger family farm in Orwell Township, she became active in the farming operation and they were blessed with two children. Joyce loved being on the farm and loved raising her children there. In their spare time, they enjoyed family trips to visit relatives and friends, gardening, planting flowers, canning, and keeping her house and lawn on the farm in pristine shape. She was active in her local homemakers group, was an Orwell 4H Club leader, a member of the Eagle’s Women’s Auxiliary and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and later First Lutheran Church.

Joyce loved her siblings, and was especially close to her sisters and had many fun times with them. Joyce enjoyed traveling, dancing, church, shopping, meeting up with friends for coffee, her perfect garden/yard at the pink house, spending holidays with her family, and cooking for her family. She loved her children and grandchildren and was very close to Alicia and Andrea and would do anything for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Gary (Mary) of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Alicia (fiancé Jeremiah Kostreba) Boettger of Fargo, Jessica (Jordan) Eggert of Sartell, Jonathan (Chantha) Boettger of Fargo, Andrea Boettger of Fargo, and Kevin Boettger of Fergus Falls; two great-grandchildren, Eli Boettger and Brinson Gaul; two brothers, Duane (Kallie) Quernemoen of Hoffman and Dennis (Janice) Quernemoen of Wisconsin; step-mother, Nancy Waugh of Hoffman; sisters-in-law, Claire Odegaard of Fargo, Caroline Medenwaldt of Fergus Falls, and Marie (Paul) Etterman of Fargo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1987; a daughter, Lois Boettger in 2013; and siblings, Marvin, Elaine, LouAnn, Harlan, and Yvonne “Gail”; and step-father, Harvey Waugh.
