Roger Allen Larson

August 21, 1932 ~ May 11, 2018 (age 85)

Roger A. Larson, 85, Henning, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Mary Murphy Home, Clitherall, Minnesota

Roger Allen Larson was born on August 21, 1932, to parents Selmer M. and Ruby (Davidson) Larson, in Kerkhoven Township, rural Kerkhoven, Minnesota. Roger was baptized at the Kerkhoven Lutheran Church and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in New London, MN. He attended school at the Kerkhoven School, then to New London School Districts.

On May 27, 1953, Roger was united in marriage to Lois “Del” Delphine Swenson at the Lutheran Church in New London, MN. Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1953 to 1955, serving in Germany for 1-1/2 years where he drove the staff car. Del continued to live in Kerkhoven during this time. After Roger’s discharge he worked a short time at Williams International Dealership in Kerkhoven, then started farming and raising dairy cows, then he went on to feed hogs and feeder cattle.

In 1972, Roger and Del moved to Clitherall and purchased the Sportsman Bar which they operated until 1999, when they moved into their new home on the east side of West Battle Lake.

Roger enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed people’s company, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Roger was a member of the American Legion in Kerkhoven and the VFW Post 612 in Fergus Falls, MN.

Survivors include his wife Del; daughters JoLynn Larson of New London and Tamla (Steve) Beckman of Prior Lake, MN; son, Scott (Cindy) Larson of Plymouth, MN; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Cleo (Eldon) Christenson of Fargo, ND and Phyllis Coleman of Lester Prairie, MN; two brothers, Howard (Sharlene) Larsen of Tombstone, AZ and Gary (Jane) Larson of Oregon and one sister-in-law, Marion Larsen of Willmar, MN

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Spencer and brother-in-law, Don Coleman.

Thank you for all the love, compassion & friendship to MARY MURPHY'S HOME & staff. A beautiful "home" for our dad/husband the last 2 years. Thank you also to Hospice for the empathy & loving care for Roger.

Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the Community Center in Clitherall from 1-3 PM

A second Celebration of Life and burial will be held June 2 at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church from 1-4 pm with Interment at 3 pm
