Norma S. Kittelson, 94, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Dalton, died on Monday, January 15, 2018, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Norma Sylvia was born on October 3, 1923, on the family farm two miles north of Dalton, the daughter of Nels O. and Selma (Simonson) Fossan. She graduated from Ashby High School in 1942. In 1973 she graduated from the Fergus Falls Community College Licensed Practical Nursing Program at the age of 50 years old.
On June 9, 1945, she married Orris Bergan at the Lutheran Parsonage in Dalton. The couple resided in Dalton where she worked as a farmer’s wife and caregiver. Orris later passed away. On June 2, 1964, she married Vernon Thorstad in Webster, South Dakota. The couple moved many different places including, Red Lodge and Billings, Montana. While in Red Lodge, Norma owned and operated Norma’s Pizza. She later moved back to the Fergus Falls area where she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the State Hospital for 10 years and retired from there in 1988. On September 2, 1996, she married Harley Kittelson at Zion Sarpsborg Lutheran Church in Dalton. Harley passed away in 2010.
Her hobbies include crocheting, knitting, fishing, bowling and watching the Minnesota Twins, Westerns and wheel of Fortune..
Preceding her in death were her parents and husbands, Orris Bergan, Vernon Thorstad and Harley Kittelson.
Survivors include three children, Marcia Franklin of Fergus Falls, MN, Faye (Jerry) Wells of Helena, Montana and Jesse (Jill) Thorstad of Fergus Falls, along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Memorial Service: 2 P.M., Saturday, January 20, 2017, at Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church in Dalton with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
