Joyce Virginia Roehl, 86 of Fergus Falls died Monday, October 21, 2019 at Elk River Senior Living in Elk River, Minnesota.
On January 14, 1933, Joyce was born to Arthur and Gladys (Udbye) Miller in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and attended Fergus Falls Public School, graduating from Fergus Falls High School in 1951.
Joyce married Willis Roehl on September 1, 1951, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They lived on the Roehl Farm west of Fergus Falls. At the beginning of their marriage they operated a dairy and grain farm. In later years they changed to finishing beef cattle. In 1999, they retired and built their dream home in Fergus Falls. Joyce was active in church making many quilts for world missions and served as President and Treasurer of LWML. She used her musical talents by singing in the church choir, accompanying the choir, and performed with the Trinity Bell Choir.
Joyce was also active in her farm community where she was an adult leader with the French 4-H. She belonged to Homemakers Club and Couples Card Club. In 1988, Joyce and Willis were honored with the University of Minnesota Farm Family of the Year award.
Joyce and Willis traveled to many countries in the world including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Australia.
She is survived by her husband, Willis; five daughters, Carol (Frank) Pengal of Hibbing, Linda Roehl of Golden Valley, Nancy (Gary) Een of Maple Grove, Mary (Phillip) Buchanan of Maple Grove, and Vicky (Paul) Wilken of Oak Grove; sister, Phyllis (Jim) Suhr of Plymouth; sister-in-law, Adrianne Miller of Fergus Falls; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and by numerous relatives and friends. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Gladys Miller; and brother, Wayne Miller. Memorial Gifts will be used for the Stained Glass Window Restoration at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Friday, October 25, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Thursday, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, resuming one hour prior to the service at the church.
