Donald Duane Elshaug

November 5, 1933 ~ May 18, 2018 (age 84)

Donald Elshaug, 84 of Fergus Falls died Friday, May 18, 2018, at his home.

Donald Duane Elshaug was born on November 5, 1933, in Sverdrup Township, rural Underwood, Minnesota the son of Olaf and Olga (Bakken) Elshaug.  He was baptized on January 23, 1934, at home and confirmed on July 25, 1948, in Rindal Free Lutheran Church.  He attended Country School in Sverdrup Township.  Don served two years, with the US Army, serving as a cook at Fort Ord in California.

Donald and Ruth Emma Schulz were married on September 5, 1953, at the Trinity Parsonage in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.  They lived a short time in Denver, Colorado before returning to Fergus Falls.  Don was employed as a custodian, for twenty-eight years, with the Fergus Falls School District #544.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing, cooking, baking, and going on trips with the family, and was known to tease, joke around and scare family and friends.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Betty (Jeff) Foner of Fergus Falls and Linda (Gary) Bergh of Rogers, Arkansas; one son, Robert (Linda) Elshaug of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Bonnie Elshaug, Derick (Megan) Pownell, Barbara Elshaug, Soren and Kala Bergh, Mildred Elshaug, Dustin Elshaug Anderson and James Foner; great-grandchildren, Trinity and Keith Dicke, Toby Davenport, Kimberlynn and Daxton Pownell; two sisters, Carolee (Don) Mokler of Little Rock, Arkansas and Bev (John) Johnson of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law, Sandy Elshaug of Fergus Falls; and by numerous family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth on July 5, 1997; parents, Olaf and Olga Elshaug; brother, Eugene Elshaug; sister, Delores Hanson; brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Bev Schulz; niece, Chris Eveland; and great-nephew, Darren Harlow.

Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

Visitation: Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7 PM, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Clergy: Rev. John Christensen and Rev. Noah Rogness

Military Honors: Minnesota National Guard

Interment: Trinity-Faith Cemetery in Fergus Falls
