Glende-Nilson Funeral Home & Cremation Service offers many different services. Our training and experience have prepared us to help, to reassure, and to understand when a family faces the loss of a loved one. Here, one finds a quiet gentleness in an atmosphere of dignity, efficiency, and trust. We believe your service choice is a personal decision. At our funeral home, we explain the options available, allowing you to make your own decisions. Families are sometimes hesitant to discuss costs, but we believe in being open about all aspects of our services and are confident we can accommodate your family.

We are committed to providing meaningful ceremonies to help you memorialize your loved ones. Whether choosing burial or cremation, our staff assists you in creating a personalized service to honor and remember the one you've lost. We provide an opportunity to create a service that reflects individual character and contribution.

Funerals
Funeral practices are influenced by religious and cultural traditions, costs and personal preferences. These factors help determine whether the funeral will be elaborate or simple, public or private, religious or secular, and where it will be held. They also influence whether the body will be present at the funeral, if there will be a viewing or visitation, and if so, whether the casket will be open or closed, and whether the remains will be buried or cremated.

A traditional service for burial, entombment or cremation, is usually the service of choice. The traditional funeral service is a meaningful expression for the family, and it gives friends and associates an opportunity to offer their support and tributes. Generally, a member of the clergy or other person chosen by the family conducts a service of remembrance. We encourage the active participation of the family in helping plan this part of the service. Many times family members choose to personalize the service by giving a reading, singing or assisting the clergy.

At Glende-Nilson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, we provide a wide selection of merchandise to meet the personalized needs of all families. Our caskets, keepsakes and vaults have been carefully selected for their craftsmanship and for the variety of materials and choices they offer. Our Selection Room offers each family the privacy to make their selection of choice.

Cremation
Contrary to what most people believe, cremation does not limit one's choices. The choice of cremation does not eliminate a funeral service. A funeral service followed by cremation may be very similar to a funeral service followed by ground burial. Following the funeral service and cremation, the cremated remains are placed in an urn before being committed to a final resting place. The cremation urn may be buried, placed in an indoor or outdoor cemetery columbarium, or scattered where permitted by law.

Cremation does not limit, but in fact increases the options available. The options for ceremonies prior to or following the cremation can include the selection of a casket or an urn, visitation with the body present (or memorial visitation where the urn is the focal point), a display of photographs or personal effects and awards, the location of the funeral ceremony and selection of music.

When we remodeled our Fergus Falls facility in 2002, we added a state-of-the-art crematory. The crematory offers families peace of mind knowing that all services are handled personally by our staff at our facility. Along with our crematory, we are able to offer families a large selection of urns and urn vaults to choose from. We also offer several cremation caskets to choose from, which families may utilize during a visitation and/or funeral ceremony.

At Glende-Nilson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, we understand the value of our services and the importance of personalization, which is why all of our services can be arranged to meet a family's needs or wishes. Increasingly, we find that individuals, whether they choose cremation or burial, want to create a service that reflects a more meaningful tribute.

Aftercare
When you lose someone you love, you will probably feel a variety of emotions. The ability to make it through the death of a loved one can be challenging, as feelings of shock and disbelief, anger, guilt and depression are not uncommon.

Caring for yourself is not selfish. The period of recovery is different for every person. There is no timetable for grief, so do not compare yourself with others who have lost loved ones. Your life has changed and healing in your own way is important for the health of your mind, body and spirit. It is normal for some days to be better than others.

To help with the grieving process, our funeral homes feature a library of books, videos and pamphlets on coping with loss. Our staff can help you choose a resource that is appropriate for your needs. You are welcome to stop by or to call the funeral home to request information on the options and resources available for coping with grief.
