Woodrow Lee

November 7, 1916 — November 9, 2015

Woodrow Lee, 99, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, November 9, 2015 at the MN Veteran's Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Woodrow Wilson Lee was born November 7, 1916 in a logging camp near Grand Rapids, MN. He was the fifth child of Thomas and Agnes (Bertram) Lee.

When Woodrow was 12 years old his family moved to Buse Township near Fergus Falls, MN. Woodrow attended District #31 in Buse Township for eight years. He didn't really care much about school, but was very good at working with his hands and building things. He was an excellent shot and enjoyed hunting ducks and pheasants. His brothers claimed he could shoot birds out of the air with a .22 rifle – all legal of course.

On February 22, 1943, he married Lucille Kidder at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls, MN. Shortly after their marriage, Woodrow was sent to Italy for approximately three years where he served in WWII with the U.S. Army.

Upon his Honorable discharge in 1946, he worked for the Adelsman Foundry in Fergus Falls. While there he made his own hand-cast rosette sets. He continued to use them almost every Christmas.

In the spring of 1949, Woodrow and Lucille moved to Maine Township where they began farming. They raised dairy cattle, pigs and chickens on a small farm. While on this farm they also raised four sons and a daughter.

After retiring from farm work he and Lucille moved to Fergus Falls. He still loved helping his sons on the farm. He could out work them well into his 80's. He also enjoyed ice fishing via netting. He didn't hunt deer himself, but enjoyed making chili for the hunters. He loved meeting friends and family at McDonald's for coffee or at Debbie's Kitchen for breakfast. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the squirrels, pigeons and wildlife in the backyard. He was an excellent cook and made most of the family's holiday meals.

Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille of 66 years, brothers Earl (Evelyn), Clifford (Laverne), Marvin (Dorothy Mae) and Charles (Carol) Lee; sisters - infant sister Minnie, Goldie (Arnold Neumann), Hazel (Regnar Jensen) and Sylvia (Carl Miller, George McCoullough).

Surviving are his children Ginnie (Thomas Snyder, deceased) of Mpls, Rick (Machell), Allen, Scott and Reggie (Linda) all of Underwood; brother - Floyd (Delores) of Fergus Falls; sisters – Dorothy (Rangvold Lindely), Gladys (Oscar Hanson), Lynette (Ronald Ripley) of Fergus Falls, Helen (Gordon Graber) of Spokane, WA, and Clara (Clarence Peasley) of Erhard.

Woodrow also leaves five grandchildren – Skipp and Chad Lee (Rick), Alissa and Brandon Lee (Reggie) and Gayle Schulze (Ginnie). Also surviving are four great-grandkids and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Woodrow was a kind-hearted family man. He was a devoted husband, father, sibling and friend. He left a legacy to our family that will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. Our lives were enriched by his presence. We will miss him.

Memorials are preferred to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church or the Minnesota Veteran's Home.
