Verna Dirkman

Verna Dirkman, 75, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, February 24, 2017 at her residence.

She was born in Independence, WI on April 7, 1941 to Robert and Frances (Guza) Bautch. She grew up in Independence and graduated from Independence High School. After her graduation, Verna was employed by the Allen-Bradley Company in Milwaukee for nine years. Verna met her future husband, Wayne, on a blind date where she was dating Wayne's friend, James and Wayne dated Verna's girlfriend, Joan. Verna and Wayne eventually began dating and were married on October 31, 1965 at St. Fredrick's Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple made their home in Milwaukee before moving to Calumet, MI where they started a business called Calumet Electronics Corporation. In 1970, they moved to Brooklyn Center, MN. In 1974, the family moved to Anoka, MN where Verna was a cook at Oxbow Elementary School. Then, in 1988, they started their Quality Circuits business in Fergus Falls. Verna and Wayne moved to Fergus Falls in 1996.

Verna enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, dancing – especially polkas, and making cookies and jellies with her grandkids. She was known for making the "world's best soups". She was a hockey mom and grandma.

Verna was a very devoted wife, mother, grandma and MN Twins fan and had a deep faith. She was not one to sit idle and was doing something all the time. Verna's last spoken words were, "Live, live".

Verna is survived by her husband, Wayne Dirkman of Fergus Falls; three sons: Bradley (Heather) Dirkman of Underwood, Michael Dirkman (Heather Cronin) of Ostego and David (Charity) Dirkman of Ramsey; four grandchildren: Samuel, Emma and Ella Dirkman and Crew Dirkman; a sister, Dorothy Koth of Cudhay, WI; a sister-in-law, Jean Bautch of Independence, WI and a brother-in-law, Everett Sluga of Independence, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter, Avah Dirkman, her siblings: Theresa Weltzien, Valeria Sluga and Donald Bautch and a brother-in-law, Ivan Koth.

Visitation: Monday, February 27, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. with a prayer vigil at 7:00 P.M. and resuming for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls.
