Tommy Sherk

August 16, 1954 — March 17, 2015

Thomas Sherk, 60, of New York Mills, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at his home in New York Mills.

Thomas Ray Sherk was born on August 16, 1954 in Park Rapids, MN. He was one of nine children born to Bernard and Lois Sherk. He and his siblings, Jerry Sherk (deceased), Ronald Sherk, Bernard Jr. Sherk (deceased), Larry Sherk (deceased), Carol Garrett, Roxy Hauck (deceased), Cindy Sherk and Tami Sherk Frank grew up in Park Rapids. When Tommy was older, the family moved to Champlin, MN and he attended Osseo Jr. High. Eventually the family moved back to Park Rapids, MN.

It was while Tommy attended Osseo Junior High that he met his future wife, Katherine. They gave birth to their daughter, Angelecia Rose Sherk on December 23, 1973. The couple married on August 14, 1974 and went on to have a son, Jesse Ray Sherk born June 11, 1978. Their union lasted 25 years and Tommy never remarried.

Tommy did not graduate High School but went on to receive his GED in 1988 and enrolled in Wadena Technical College where he received his Diploma on March 19, 1990 in the Automotive Technician Course. He graduated with honors and was in the top of his class. Tommy's passion for cars had been apparent to all from an early age, particularly for restoring antique cars.

Tommy was a simple, private man whose hobbies included playing guitar, writing poetry, painting, hunting, and fixings cars. He was an avid outdoorsman and could often be found walking trails with his beloved friend, his dog, Puppy. Anywhere Tommy went you would find Puppy tagging along.

Tommy was a man of great faith and it sustained him and gave him comfort throughout his short life. He was baptized along with his daughter at Constance Free Church in Andover, MN.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Bernard and Lois Sherk; his brothers, Jerry Sherk, Bernard Jr. Sherk, Larry Sherk; and his sister, Roxy Hauck.

He is survived by his children, Angelecia Sherk and Jesse Sherk; his only grandson, Leighton Tripp; his brother, Ronald Sherk; his sisters, Cindy Sherk, Carol Garrett and Tami Frank Sherk; as well as countless in-laws, nephews, and nieces.

Graveside Service: 3:30 PM Monday, March 23, 2015, at Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids, Minnesota, followed by a gathering of family and friends from 4 PM – 6 PM at the American Legion, 900 1st Street East, Park Rapids.

The Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Fergus Falls is handling the arrangements.
