Thomas Lothenbach

Thomas Lothenbach, 94, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at his residence under the care of his family and Red River Valley Hospice.

Thomas John Lothenbach was born September 20, 1921 to John and Mary (Schaefer) Lothenbach in St. Paul. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls. Tom attended grade school at St. Matthew's School in St. Paul and then South St. Paul High School. He also attended Mechanics Arts School in St. Paul for meat cutting. Tom entered the US Army from 1946 to 1947 and was in the artillery, serving during World War II. On June 10, 1948, Tom was united in marriage to Phyllis Wimer in Hastings. The couple lived in St. Paul, South St. Paul then Hastings. He was employed by Twin Cities Meats for 36 years, retiring in 1984. After retirement they moved to East Lost Lake near Underwood, MN and then to Fergus Falls in 2008. In his retirement, he drove Otter Tail Coaches Activity bus for 14 years.

Tom enjoyed yard work, gardening, fishing and the outdoors. He enjoyed playing cards and liked helping people. Tom enjoyed his family and was known for teasing his kids and grandkids.

Tom is survived by his wife, Phyllis; five children: Gary (Judy) Lothenbach of Inver Grove Heights, Jane (Kerry) Baumgartner of Battle Lake, Diane Thompson of Kansas City, MO, Donald Lothenbach of Hastings and Carol (Jerry) TerHark of Springfield, MO; one sister, Mary Kromschroeder; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Lothenbach, a granddaughter, Wendy Sue Lothenbach, two brothers, John Lothenbach and Bernard Lothenbach and two sisters, Gladys Smola and Irene Bachmann.

Memorials are preferred to Basswood Baptist Church Building Fund or Red River Valley Hospice.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church

Service: Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Basswood Baptist Church – rural Richville

Burial: Monday, April 4, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings
