Stanley Selvaag

Stanley Selvaag, 78 of Henning passed away Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Henning.

Stanley Keith Selvaag was born on August 25, 1937, by Vining, Minnesota the son of Edwin and Sigrid (Bergsten) Selvaag. He was baptized and confirmed in Folden Lutheran Church and attended the Henning Public School.

During his teenage years, he worked some summers for grain farmers in Montana.

Stan met Karen Fletcher at Leaf Lakes Ballroom and dated for about 4 years.

Stanley and Karen were married on November 22, 1958, in Nidaros Lutheran Church of rural Clitherall, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived one year in San Diego, California where he worked for a vending company and then for Boeing Aircraft. They returned to the Vining area, before moving to their farm south of Henning, where he built the family home. He was employed with the Otter Tail County Highway Department for twenty-seven years, working out of the Vining Garage, until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed deer hunting with many hunting trips up north and in the later years was especially fond of wild turkey hunting. Stan was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting as well as trapping, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and also did wood working, making many items for church sales and family. He enjoyed fixing things and finding solutions to problems. He was a lifetime member of Folden Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir, and was part of the Folden Men's Club. Stan was also very active with the church during the remodeling and building the addition. In November of 2011, Stan and Karen moved to their home in Henning. In December of 2011, Stan entered the Golden Living Center due to complications from Parkinson's.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; four children, Katherine Landeen of Henning, Barbara (Joe) Fletcher of Sioux Falls, SD, Bryan (Tanya) Selvaag of Chateaugay, NY and Lynette (Duane) Reinhardt of Norfolk, VA; twelve grandchildren, Joshua, Brandy, Adam, Michelle, Ashley, Kristi, Britany, Kayleigh, Andrew, Jessica, Becky and Tim; twenty great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Gunderson and Delores (Romaine) Stephan both of Vining; one brother, Jerry (Mavis) Selvaag of Vining; and by numerous other relatives and friends. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Sigrid Selvaag; and by two brothers-in-law, Gil Lovro and Wayne Gunderson.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Folden Lutheran Church, rural Vining.

Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 pm, with a Prayer Service at 7 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Clergy: Rev. Rud Wasson

Interment: Folden Lutheran Cemetery
