Ruth Frykman, 93 of Evansville, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Evansville Care Center
Ruth Frykman was born April 3, 1917 on the family farm in Evansville Township to Olaf and Clara (Christenson) Shurson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church. She attended rural District 32 and graduated form Brandon High School in 1933. Ruth then attended 1 year at the normal training department of the Alexandria High School. She worked for her room and board at a small home for Mrs. O.S. Larson. Ruth started teaching in rural school District No. 26 at the age of 17, where she taught for two years and she also taught for two years at District No. 32.
On October 8, 1938 she and Bertil Frykman were married at St. Petri Lutheran Church they lived on a Century Farm south west of Evansville where they raised 3 children. Off the farm interests were Zionsborg Church and Cemetery Association, Evansville Schools, 4-H Clubs, Douglas County Historical Society, Evansville Historical Foundation, and numerous community activities. When Zionsborg closed they joined Immanuel Church in Evansville which became Faith Lutheran Church of Evansville.
Ruth and Bertil farmed together for 45 years. In 1983 they sold the farm to their son David and retired in Evansville. Bertil died on their 50th Anniversary, October 8, 1988. At the present time Ruth lived in the Evansville Care Center.
After retirement they enjoyed traveling to many states, always happy to come home to Evansville, their church and friends. Ruth continued some traveling with friends and family after the death of Bertil - a highlight was the Oberammergau Passion Play in 1990 and travels in Central Europe and Scandinavia.
Ruth is survived by David Frykman, Evansville, MN; Neta Lamp, Newbery Park, CA; Richard (Carol) Frykman, New Prague, MN; grandchildren: Lorena (Robert) Caulfield and their children Luke, Clara and Alexa, Newbery Park, CA; Jeremiah (Telma) Rees and their children Ondria and Nicole, Glendora, CA; Jon (Alicia) Frykman, Hutchinson, MN; Paul (Angie) Frykman, Duluth, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bertil and grandson Brian Frykman.
Funeral Services: Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville
Visitation: Friday 4-7 PM at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Evansville and one hour prior to the service at the church
