Roger Skaar

Roger Skaar, 76, of Ashby, died Friday, August 28, 2015, at his home under the care of Lakeland Hospice.
Roger John Skaar was born on March 31, 1939 in Fergus Falls, MN, to Kent S. and Thelma E. (Legreed) Skaar. He was raised in Ashby, MN and attended the Ashby Public School from grade school through high school, graduating as Valedictorian in 1957. Roger went on to attend Concordia College, Moorhead, MN.
In January 1961 he married Patricia Norenberg and from the marriage two sons were born.
Roger continued his education at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree in June of 1962. Roger worked his way through college laying brick and became a journeyman brick layer.
Beginning in 1963, Roger worked for several architectural firms in Mankato, MN before joining Wick-Stansfield-Kagermeier in 1970. He became a registered architect in 1970 and retired in 1997 from Kagermeier-Skaar-Asleson Architects Inc.
Upon the passing of Patricia, he married Janice Lundhagen on July 24, 1976, who brought two sons to the marriage, along with four horses and a dog.
During his years in Mankato, Roger designed many churches, offices, government buildings and other structures in the southern Minnesota area. However, he was most proud of the home he designed for his new wife and combined family outside of Mankato.
Roger was a member of American Institute of Architects, MN Society of Architects, past board member and president of the Congregation at Christ the King Lutheran Church - Mankato, past member of Hilltop Kiwanis - Mankato, Builders Exchange - Mankato, member of Lake Havasu Yacht Club - Arizona, and Square Dance Club – Arizona. His hobbies include duck and deer hunting, travel, design and reading.
He was preceded in death by both parents; his first wife, Patricia; grandparents; aunts and uncles.
Roger is survived by his wife, Janice of Ashby and Lake Havasu City, AZ; four sons, Kent (Mary) Skaar of North Mankato, MN, John (Lisa) Skaar of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Keith (fiancée Chris Nowland) Lundhagen of Orono, MN, and Eric (Kendra) Lundhagen of Marietta, Georgia; and eight grandchildren, Megan Skaar, Nicholas Skaar, Samantha Skaar, David Lundhagen, Jack Lundhagen, Annika Lundhagen, Carson Lundhagen, and Kirk Lundhagen.
Memorials are preferred to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society – www.lls.org.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Thursday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Ashby, and one hour prior to services at the church.
