Roger Burris

Roger Burris, 73, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.

Roger Dean Burris was born on December 2, 1939, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Walter and Wanita (Norton) Burris. He was baptized and confirmed in First English Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School.

On January 12, 1961, Roger enlisted in the United States Navy at Monterrey, California. He was honorably discharged in 1961, re-enlisted, and was honorably discharged a second time on January 23, 1967, attaining the rank of Machinist Mate Third Class.

Following his military service, Roger returned to Fergus Falls, working initially as an apprentice plumber. Eventually, Roger entered his "entrepreneurial years". He enjoyed a variety of ventures, which included: owning pizza restaurants, working as a bail bondsman, and over-the-road transport.

In his spare time, Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing and more recently, helped his brother build a garage. Roger was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the Ottertail Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends at his home on Long Lake, especially with his son Scott, until his passing.

Roger is survived by three brothers: David of Ottertail; Jeffery (Brenda) of Wahpeton, ND, Warren (Lorie) of Fergus Falls; three sisters: Helen Olthoff of Breckenridge, Vickie (Fred) Extrand of Bloomington, MN, Karen (Brent) Johnson of Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his son, Scott; brother-in-law, Don Olthoff; and a nephew, Tommy Thompson.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
