Rod Weets, age 56, of Evansville, died Friday, September 26, 2014, at the Evansville Care Campus.
Rodney Lee Weets was born July 29, 1958 to Lee and Geraldine (Brokate) Weets. He was baptized and confirmed at Lysne Lutheran Church, rural Hawley. Rod graduated from Hawley High School in 1976, working for Valley Harvester and Peterman Seeds while living in Hawley. He married Karen Satterlie in 1981. In 1984, they moved to Evansville and started farming south of town. Rod loved the land and farming.
In the late 1980's, Rod began his custom applicating business: Rod Weets and Sons Farm Services and continued to farm, until turning the farming operation over to his sons Kyle and Kerby. Rod later went to work for Barrett Farm Supply. In the spring of 2008, Rod went to work for the Ashby Equity Association as agronomy manager, where he had worked until his health prevented him from going into the office. Rod's dream was fulfilled with the completion of the new fertilizer plant in February of 2014.
Rodney had a memory for names, faces and dates. If he had ever met you, been to your place or had a business transaction with you, Rodney would have a story for you. Rod had a passion for helping farmers, and ultimately always took care of his customers. Rod had an entrepreneurial spirit and treated every acre as if it were his own. He had a keen sense of direction and was affectionately referred to by his family and close friends as "Rod Rod", (not to be confused with Tom Tom), and with his passing, we will now need a GPS.
He is survived by his sons Kyle (Amy) of Evansville and Kerby (Jacki) of Wendell; their mother Karen (David) Holte of Wendell; his grandchildren, William, Blaire and Tucker; his father Lee (Jeanette) of Hawley; sister Ronda (Rick) Thorne of Malabar, FL; niece Megan Miller of South Tampa, FL; his step-siblings: Verlyn Ulrich, Cheryl (Bill) Gottenborg, LouAnn (Tim) Olsen; step-nieces and nephews; several relatives and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, his father-in-law, Sid Satterlie Jr. and many other loved ones.
