Ricky Riedel, 58 of Battle Lake died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 by Battle Lake.

Ricky Stuart Riedel was born on December 30, 1955 in Bertha, Minnesota the son of Randall and Betty (Liewerenz) Riedel. He was baptized in the First Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie and graduated from the Deer Creek High School in 1974. After his graduation he entered the U.S. Marine Corp serving four years with two tours on the USS Kitty Hawk.

Rick and Susan Wiese were married on June 29, 1984 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. After their marriage they lived in Wadena until 1988, when they moved to a home by Silver Lake of rural Battle Lake and in 1993 they moved into their present home in Battle Lake. On April 19, 1979 Rick started employment with the United Parcel Service (UPS) in Wadena, first as a vacation driver then in 1987; he began his own route with the Fergus Falls UPS location. Rick enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, spending time on the island at his farm, walking to the other end of the world, enjoying teaching the youngsters about the land. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, the NRA and the Teamsters Union.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; one brother, Randy (Peggy) Riedel of Hewitt; two sisters, Linda (Gary) Hachfeld of North Mankato and Karen (Dick) Sibert of Deer Creek; sister-in-law, Laurie (Bob) Braley of Wadena; mother and father-in-law, Walter and Hazel Wiese of Verndale; four brothers-in-law, Wally (Kathy) Wiese of Verndale, Bruce (Carol) Wiese of Nisswa, Mark (Cathy) Wiese and Walter (Cindy) Wiese both of Verndale; two sisters-in-law, Karen Treangen of Hewitt and Leona (Neal) Bowman of Bertha; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Randall and Betty Riedel; and by one brother, Scott Riedel.

Funeral Service: 1:30 pm, Sunday March 9, 2014 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota

Visitation: 4 to 7 pm Saturday at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church

Clergy: Rev. Jonathan Sorum

Military Honors: Minnesota National Guard
