Reuben Walvatne

January 26, 1925 — April 5, 2015

Reuben Walvatne, 90 of rural Battle Lake died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at the Pioneer Care Center in Fergus Falls.

Reuben Marvin Walvatne was born on January 26, 1925 in Clermont, Iowa the son of Alfred and Clara (Kleppe) Walvatne. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and attended rural school in Otter Tail County.

When he was a young boy, his family moved from Iowa to Otter Tail County in Minnesota, living in various locations before settling on a farm adjoining Blanche Lake in Everts Township, north of Battle Lake. He served with the US Army, and after his discharge, Reuben moved to Minneapolis, where he was a barber with Jack Carter's Barbershop in Edina. He later moved back to the home farm and barbered in Fergus Falls in a shop in the First National Bank building. Reuben retired from barbering and started farming, raising both grain and cattle. Reuben enjoyed gardening, canning and felt it was important to eat healthy. He liked to read, talk politics, and was very conscientious about finding just the right word to express himself. If one had different views, he would talk until he felt he had corrected their thinking.

Reuben is survived by his brother, Alfred Walvatne Jr. of Wheatridge, Colorado and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Clara Walvatne; sisters, Lydia Ostrom and Mary Ann Carlson; and by his brothers, Casper, Abner, Joe, Ervin, Harry and Eugene Walvatne.
