Philip Lacher

Philip Lacher, 82, of West Battle Lake , rural Clitherall, died Thursday, November 18, 2010, at his home under the care of Hospice with his wife and daughter, Gwen, at his bedside.





He was born May 1, 1928, in Venturia , North Dakota to Sebastian Philip and Bregida (Vetter) Lacher. He was baptized May 3, 1928, at Zealand , North Dakota and confirmed May, 1939, at Elliot , North Dakota . He received his education at Alleghancy #1, North Dakota and the State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota .





From May 20, 1946 to January 5, 1949, Philip served in the Army Air Force during WWII and was recalled to serve during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan , Guam and San Antonio , Texas .





On March 6, 1954, he married Phyllis Alma Spencer. Philip worked for Otter Tail Power for over 30 years at Jamestown , ND , Brandon , MN and Fergus Falls . He then worked for Western Area Power Association in Phoenix , AZ , retiring in 1990.





Philip thoroughly enjoyed his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who were the absolute joy of his life. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, hunting and traveling. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop #302 and received the Silver Beaver Award. He belonged to the VFW in Lisbon , ND and the American Legion of Brandon and Ashby.





He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Craig (Pamela) Lacher of Cummings, ND, Gwen Stanley of Alexandria, MN, Gail (Mike) Bender of Norman, OK and Beth (Jeffry) Tougas of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jean Lacher of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Kay Vosberg of Oakes, ND and Josephine (Al) Lauro of Arizona City, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Bregida Lacher; a son, Brian Lacher; sisters, Elsie Kapaun, Anna Marie Lacher and Rose Mullin; brothers, John Lacher, William Lacher and Sebastian Lacher in infancy; brothers-in-law, Dale Vosberg and Leon Gatzemeyer.





In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lakeland Hospice.
