Pauline Nelson

November 9, 1935 — October 9, 2015

Pauline Carrie Rice Nelson was called to leave this earth and walk with Jesus on October 9, 2015. She died peacefully with her loving daughters by her side.

Pauline was born in Hammondsport, New York on November 9, 1935 to Evelyn and Mae Rice. She was raised in this town where she grew up loving the outdoors. She always dreamed of becoming a Marine and after graduating high school, she made that dream come true. In 1953, Pauline joined the Marines where she was destined to meet her future husband, Gerald Nelson.

They were married on November 2, 1954, and the following year gave birth to their first daughter, Deborah. Four years later, they moved back to Hammondsport, where their second daughter Sandra was born. In 1962, her family moved Crystal, MN and later to Corcoran, where in 1972 she gave birth to her third daughter, Pamela.

Her husband's career took her to several different towns where many outdoor adventures like fishing and camping took place. Pauline took great joy in caring for her family and the many animals she loved throughout the years. But it was her love of sports that never left her even in her later years as illness developed. She would love to help her sons-in-law see the errors of their ways when her teams would win.

Pauline was blessed to have had her last fishing trip this past summer with her son in-law Todd and daughter Deborah at the lake home in MN. Pauline was also blessed to move into her daughter Sandra's home where she was well cared for the last three years. She would have celebrated her 80th birthday next month.

She is survived by her three daughters, Deborah (Todd) Reiss, Sandra (Shea) Reyes, and Pamela (Dennis) Zukowski; as well as 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Calmer (Mary Jane), David (Margaret), Larry (Becky), Carl Williams; and sister-in-law, Betty.

She was preceded in death by husband; her parents; sisters, Vivian (Mel), and Doris (Toby); sister-in-law, Janet Williams; brother-in-law, Marvin Nelson; and granddaughter, Beth Reiss.

Funeral Service: 11 AM Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Clergy: Pastor Carol Olson

Interment: Pelican Lake Cemetery, Ashby
