Palmer Lystrom, 76, of Evansville, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake.
Palmer "Sonny" James Lystrom was born October 7, 1935 to Rudolph and Hazel (Palm) Lystrom, at home in Leaf Mountain Township. He was baptized at First Lutheran Parsonage, Battle Lake, MN. He was confirmed at Grue Lutheran Church in Ashby, MN. He attended country school, first through eighth grade at District 67, Otter Tail County and then Evansville High School, where he graduated in 1953. After graduating, Palmer worked at the Green Giant Company in Lesuer, MN. In 1958, Palmer worked for the Battle Lake Creamery and in 1959, started work at the Evansville Public School, where he worked for forty-five years, retiring in 2006.
On April 16, 1960, Palmer married Doris Covel and was married 27 years. Palmer was a member of the Evansville Fire Department for twenty-seven years and retired in February 1997. Palmer also served in the United States Armed Reserves, with Company B, 1st Battalion, 409th Infantry for twenty-two years and retired Sergeant First Class Lystrom August 28, 1988. Palmer was a dedicated servant not only to his community, but also his country.
Palmer was a man of many talents. If it was broke, he could fix it, and rarely needed a professional to "assist" him. In his spare time, Palmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, card parties, snowmobiling, baseball, gardening, dancing and going to the casino. Since moving to the Evansville Senior Living, his favorite past time was puzzles and giving the staff static electricity shocks from his finger tip and giving them a "hard time", all with a big grin on his face.
Palmer passed away at Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake, MN on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the age of 76.
He is survived by a son, Lonnie (Nancy) Lystrom of Evansville; a daughter, April Lystrom (companion Mike Henneman) of Evansville; a sister, Corinne Berglund of Evansville; ten grandchildren: Kayla Glasby, Kaitlin Lystrom, Marisa Lystrom, Rhiley Henneman, Sean Henneman, Zach Henneman, Christopher Hedrick, Tony Hedrick, Christopher Velde and Rachel Propst; his nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family members.
