Norman Week

Norman Week, 91, of Evansville died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Norman Alvin Week was born November 1, 1921, to Levis and Emma (Johnson) Week near Bagley, MN. He was baptized in Bagley and at age six moved to their family farm north of Evansville. He attended District 35 Country School and graduated from Evansville High School in 1941. He continued his education at the California Aircraft Institute in Los Angeles. His first job was with Consolidated Aircraft Co. where the B24 Liberator Bomber was manufactured. Norman enlisted into the US Navy in March of 1942 and was stationed at the Naval Training school for aviation machinists in Chicago. For two years he was stationed at Port Columbus, Ohio and one year at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Norman and Deloris Schneider were married on November 25, 1943 in Obetz, Ohio. They moved to Evansville in 1946 and dairy farmed for 40 plus years along with grain and beef farming. They had three sons: Robert, Donald, and Dennis. Donald and Dennis formed a partnership with Norman and farmed together until 1981 when Norman purchased a home in Evansville.

Norman was originally a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and then Faith Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of Farm Bureau and served on many boards including Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Douglas County Soil Conservation, Gardonville Telephone and Mound Grove Cemetery. He was a member of the West Douglas County American Legion Post 188 for sixty-four years. Norman enjoyed spending time with family, farming, woodworking, traveling, reading, and good conversation.

He is survived by three sons, Robert (Susan) of Bloomington, Dennis (Jenell) and Donald (Carol) of Evansville; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Tess)Week, Emilie (Chris)Larson, Adam Week, Chris (Somer) Kvale, Carl Kvale, Molly (Kyle) Holmgren, Mandy Week, Sally (Frank)Fabio; twelve great grandchildren; niece, Beverly( Holland) Week, and one special friend Dorothy Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Myron; and his wife, Deloris.

Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Evansville and resuming for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Service: Saturday at 3:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville
