Norman Larson, 81 of rural Clitherall, died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Henning.
Norman Sebert Larson was born on May 3, 1932 in Battle Lake, Minnesota the son of Sebert and Hjordis (Sampson) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church. Norman attended Country School in Leaf Mountain Township and graduated from the Battle Lake High School in 1951.
He served with the U.S. Army from November 17, 1954, until his discharge on September 10, 1956. He served in Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, and then was stationed in Alaska as a Heavy Weapons Infantryman. He farmed in Leaf Mountain Township along with working as a mechanic for Nordlund Repair, Lykken Implement, Smith Implement and then Prairie Implement. He grain farmed along with raising beef cattle, enjoying his farming, cattle and his equipment, having his own equipment repair shop on his farm.
Norman enjoyed bowling, had donated many gallons of blood, was a lifetime member of the Leaf Mountain Church where he had served on the church board, cemetery board, cemetery advisory board, a member of the Mountain Men and was instrumental in promoting construction of the dining hall addition unto the church. Norman was the church bell ringer and kept track of attendance for over forty years. He enjoyed people, good conversation and lunch fellowship.
Norman is survived by one brother, Maynard (Debra) Larson of Clitherall; two nephews, Allen (Mary) Larson and Derek Larson both of Clitherall; two nieces, Shirley (Tom) Stewart of Clitherall and Melissa (Zach) Eide of Fergus Falls; and by great-nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebert and Hjordis Larson; brother and his wife, Duane and Sharlet Larson; niece, Sherri and great-niece, Stacy.
Memorial Service: 11:00 AM Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church of rural Clitherall
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church.
