Morton Hanson

Morton Hanson, 85, of Fergus Falls , died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls .





Morton Glenn Hanson was born on January 15, 1926 to Martin and Gena (Engelson) Hanson in Fergus Falls . He was baptized and confirmed at Vukku Lutheran Church and grew up in Foxhome Township and attended Riverside School .





Morton was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War era and was honorably discharged. He worked on construction crews in the Minneapolis area until the mid 50’s when he returned to farm with his father, later buying the family farm.





On December 18 th , 1963 Morton was united in marriage to Margaret Iona Njaa. Together they brought up a son, Thomas, born in 1968, and a daughter, Debra, born in 1971. Margaret preceded him in death in 1994.





Morton and his brother sold their farms in 1973 and worked during the first year of the Minn-Dak sugar beet plant in Wahpeton. Later he went into a small engine repair business, on to drive a semi-truck and retired from Sears in Fergus Falls .





Morton’s retirement years were spent at his home on Wall Lake . Later he sold his lake property and lived in his daughter and son-in-law’s lake cabin on Lake Clitherall . In recent years Morton lived at Alcott Manor, finally moving to Broen Memorial Home where he passed away on February 10, 2011.





He is survived by his son Thomas, Fargo , ND ; his daughter, Debra (Timothy) Hill and their children Isaac, Grace, Eleanor, Ezra and Silas of Eagan, MN; his sister Florence Karlgaard of Valley City, ND; several nieces, nephews and friends.





Morton was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; his father and mother; his sisters Amelia Christenson and Muriel Holmen, and his brother Gordon.
