Minnetta Rohloff, 90, of Evansville, departed this life on August 29, 2014, under the care of Lakeland Hospice, at Life Song Residence in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
Minnetta Charlotte Olson Rohloff was born November 17, 1923, near Evansville, Minnesota; Charlie and Ida (Ellingson) Olson being the proud parents. Minnetta was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Evansville where she taught Sunday School for decades and participated in Ladies Aid and Circle groups. At Minnetta's confirmation, she was somewhat concerned to be held up in the processional by an unknown woman who asked her to "promise me you will read your Bible every day." As it turned out, nobody missed a step and the woman disappeared - nobody else having seen her. Minnetta came to believe it was her angel sent by God to attend her confirmation and relay God's expectation to her. Minnetta did, indeed, read her Bible every day.
Minnetta and Ted Rohloff were married at Our Saviors parsonage in Evansville on April 30, 1943. They lived their life together on a farm on the Grant/Douglas County Line. Minnetta helped on the farm and always had a garden to be proud of. People have also commented that their yard was one of the first in the area to be mowed and planted with flower beds which Minnetta enjoyed and took pride in. One of the fun trips Minnetta enjoyed was to Holland, Michigan, where she selected various hostas and tulip bulbs to ship home where they still pop up each spring. Minnetta wrote in her journal every day. She could tell you which day the oats was planted in 1961 and how many inches of rain came in July 1976. She could describe in detail the interesting wall in the Miami airport. She did, however, sleep through the video presentation at the Cape Canaveral Space Center and was disappointed to never see an alligator crossing the road in Florida. Over the years, she accomplished much sewing, quilting, embroidery, and crocheting of rugs. She was an avid reader in addition to her daily Bible reading. Her coffee was hot and accompanied by a fresh apple pie or some other treat. The smell of fresh bread baking was usual in her kitchen.
Survivors include her "AZs" being daughters Charlotte and Laurel of Phoenix, AZ, and her son Gordon (Lynette) of Ashby. The highlights of her life were her grandsons, John (Alyssa) and Patrick. She and those boys ate a lot of ice cream, played a lot of after-school games, trapped gophers, read books, and climbed trees over the years. She is also survived by her brother, Lyle (Jan) of Evansville, sisters-in-law Gladys Gerhardt of Alexandria, Marian Johnson of Fergus Falls, Rosann Bergman of Hawthorne, CA, and Gladys (Rod) Vogt of Alexandria, and all the nieces and nephews.
Minnetta departed this life on August 29, 2014, under the care of Lakeland Hospice, at Life Song Residence in Fergus Falls where she lived her last years, to join her parents and husband as well as other relatives and friends who preceded her home.
