Mildred Nygaard, 90, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Mildred Carolyne Nygaard was born on July 25, 1924 in Superior, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Blanche (Grant) Johnson. At an early age, the family moved to Fergus Falls, where George worked as a blacksmith. Mildred attended school in Fergus Falls through the ninth grade.
At the age of nineteen, Mildred married Myron Nygaard in Fergus Falls, and they were blessed with four children.
Mildred and Myron lived near Elizabeth, where they farmed for many years, before moving to Fergus Falls in 1964. Mildred worked as a nurse's aide at the Pioneer Home and also worked at a small grocery store on Union Avenue. Myron died on August 31, 1988, and Mildred continued to make her home in Fergus Falls.
She loved "garage saleing" and especially enjoyed morning coffee, socializing with friends. Mildred was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Mildred is survived by her three children, Susan Nygaard of Fergus Falls, Sherry (Ralph) Carter of Battle Lake, and Joyce Nygaard of Fergus Falls; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Nygaard of Fergus Falls; two grandsons, Shawn and Jason Carter; and two brothers, Harry Johnson of Elk River and Eugene Johnson of Crystal.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; son, Brian; and brothers, Earl and Harold.
Visitation: 5 – 8 PM Thursday at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
