Melvin Bjone

Melvin R. Bjone, 88, of Fergus Falls died on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Broen Home.





Melvin Romain Bjone was born October 3, 1921 in Browerville to Oscar and Mary (Lisowski) Bjone. He grew up and received his education in Sauk Centre graduating in 1939. Melvin joined the Minnesota National Guard in Sauk Centre at the age of 17. His unit was called into active duty. Melvin joined the United States Army 1941 and was stationed in California . After his honorable discharge in 1945 he returned home to Sauk Centre and went to work for Raymond Brothers Transportation Yard.





On June 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Irene Braun in Sauk Centre at his parent’s home. The couple eventually moved to Fergus Falls where they operated West Lincoln Shell and Sportsmen Service and later Bjone’s Minnow Service and sold Polaris snowmobiles until retiring in 1989.





Melvin enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, camping and hunting. He was a member of American Legion and Senior Center , after retirement he served as Vice President and Building Maintenance Chairman. He was a wonderful husband and great-uncle. In his early years he loved to travel.





Melvin is survived by his wife, Irene; brother-in-law Knute (Eldora) Braun; sister-in-law Rose Braun; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
