May Tripp, 99, of Ashby died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Ashby Assisted Living Center, one month shy of her 100th birthday.

She was born May 1, 1914 in Cayuga, ND to Dan and Grace (Freeman) Andrus. At a young age she moved with her family to Comstock, WI and eventually to rural Dalton in 1917. She received her schooling at Parkdale Country School through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Willie Tripp on March 22, 1942 while he was on leave from his service with the U.S. Army. After Willie's discharge in 1945, they moved to Ashby where May lived until July of 2012. She then moved to Alcott Manor in Fergus Falls and lived there until February 2014 when she moved to Ashby Assisted Living Center. Willie passed away on April 16, 1997. In 1960, May began working as a nurse's aide at the Pelican Lake Health Care Center in Ashby. She worked there until 1987 when she retired.

May enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and was an excellent seamstress and quilter. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and shopping for bargains at garage sales. She was a member of the Ashby American Legion Auxiliary for many years. May marched in every Memorial Day Program until she was 95. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons: Roger (Diane) Tripp of Brooklyn Park, Allen (Linda) Tripp of Rush City and Richard (Sandy) Tripp of Fergus Falls; six grandchildren: Jodi Smith, Jennifer (Kevin) Conrad, Ryen (Nicole) Tripp, Justin (Lynsey) Tripp, Katie Tripp and Karen Tripp and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Gladys Larson.
Visitation: 1 ½ hours prior to the service at the church
