Mary Miller, 78, of rural Fergus Falls, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at her home.
Mary Ellen Miller was born July 14, 1934 on the family farm near Fergus Falls, to Robert and Irene (Slack) Miller. She attended District 31 School in Buse Township through the eighth grade, and went on to graduate from Fergus Falls High School.
Following school, Mary stayed on the farm to care for her mother, who was disabled and to help on the family farm. Following her mother's death, Mary operated a dairy and grain farm alongside her brother John. In 1975, Mary went to work as a nurse's aide at the Pioneer Home in Fergus Falls, where she worked for several years.
After retiring, Mary enjoyed traveling. She visited Europe three times, to Rome, and made several trips to visit her nephews in Washington and Louisiana. Mary was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, where she was on the bulletin committee for years, and as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, would take communion to those ill and in the nursing homes.
Mary loved to garden, and especially loved pets. She always had at least one dog and one cat, and was fond of German Shepherds. True companions, her pets Duke and Libby were at her side when she passed away unexpectedly. Mary was loved by her friends and family and will be remembered by all as a genuinely good person.
Mary is survived by her brother, John Miller of Fergus Falls; two nephews: Robert Miller of West Fargo, ND and Joseph Miller of Tacoma, Washington; a great-niece and nephew: Celia of Louisiana and Cameron of Washington; and a great-great-niece and nephew: Serenity and Justin Jr.; along with many other cousins, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas, and Robert, as an infant.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM, Sunday, November 18, 2012, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with visitation continuing one hour prior to services at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 AM Monday, November 19, 2012, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls
