Marvin Umlauf

Marvin Umlauf, age 88, of Fergus Falls, died Monday at Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls.
Marvin Allan Umlauf was born on February 5, 1925 in Luce, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Alberta (Morton) Umlauf. As a boy, he moved with his family to Star Lake Township, and attended school at District 144, receiving his diploma. In his younger years, Marvin worked on the family farm.
On July 7, 1944, Marvin entered the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling. He attended basic training in Oregon, amphibious training in California, served in the invasion of the Philippines and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged on April 18, 1946, at which time he returned to the Star Lake area, where he worked for his father. On April 11, 1953, Marvin re-enlisted with the Air Force and served for one and a half years.
Marvin was united in marriage to LuVerne O. Fogelman on June 5, 1955. Luverne died November 6, 1983.
Following his military career, Marvin went to work for the Ford Motor Company in Saint Paul in September of 1956. Of the many positions he held, he retired from the Quality Control Department on May 1, 1986 with thirty years of service.
On October 5, 1986, Marvin married Ardella Lappi. Ardella died January 9, 2001.
After retiring, Marvin moved to Wall Lake, near Fergus Falls, where he has since resided. Having a true love for the outdoors, Marvin enjoyed fishing, flowers and lawn work. In his younger years, he enjoyed time spent on the farm and sawing lumber with his father.
Marvin is survived by six siblings: Wilma Forsyth of California, Yvonne (Eugene) Hanson of Dent, Minnesota, Milo of Saint Paul, Joyce Gregory of Fergus Falls, Allan (Linda) of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and Carl of Watertown, South Dakota; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by both spouses; eleven siblings; and a host of in-laws, relatives and friends.
Gathering of Family and Friends: 11 AM – 1 PM Friday, November 22, 2013, with a 1 PM Prayer Service at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.

Interment: 2 PM Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Meet at Assembly Area # 4 between 1:45 PM and 2 PM.
