Marvin Mahler

Marvin Mahler, 90 of rural Fergus Falls died Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at his home.

Marvin Delbert was born on May 13, 1926, in Fergus Falls Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota the son of Henry William and Dora Clara (Zimmer) Mahler, both of German ancestry. He was baptized and confirmed at the First United Church of Christ, Fergus Falls and attended school District #208 through the eighth grade. Marvin was 13 years old when his father died and he continued to farm along with his family.

On November 6, 1949, he married Dorothy Stoner at the First United Church of Christ. The couple resided and farmed in Fergus Falls Township. Marvin also did seasonal work at the Beet Pilar in Casselton, ND for seven years and worked at the Elizabeth Creamery as a relief worker for 5 years and as a manager for 10 years. He retired as a relief worker at the Elizabeth Creamery in January of 2001. The couple enjoyed traveling to visit relatives in Illinois and various states including the coast from Washington to California. Dorothy died on April 19, 1990.

On June 5, 1993, he married Corinne Minge at the First United Church of Christ. The couple resided on the farm. They enjoyed traveling twice to Norway, also Hawaii and various other states from the Pacific to the Atlantic Coasts. Marvin enjoyed their many opportunities to share accordion music in various locations including Norway. Corinne died on January 29, 2002.

He is a lifelong member of the First United Church of Christ where he served on the church council for 9 years, also as treasurer and on the building committee. Marvin served on the school board for several years and is a member of the Eagles, Sons of Norway, the Elizabeth Sportsmen, also Rollag and Dalton Threshermen's Associations.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry in 1939 at the age of 56 and Dora in 1971 at the age of 86; spouses, Dorothy and Corinne; sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Elmer Davis; stepson and daughter-in-law, Robert and Shelly Minge; and stepson, Joel Minge.

Marvin's hobbies include making 23 grandfather clocks, various toys, automobiles and many other items with his woodworking skills, also dancing, card playing and hunting.
His family includes a daughter, Rosanna Nelson of New Mexico; two grandchildren, Todd Nelson of California, Stacey Nelson of Fargo; one step granddaughter, Katie Minge; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Brandon, Logan, Jaden and Alexis Nelson; two sisters, Louise Erickson of Shelbyville, IN and Marjorie (Robert) Eastwood of Underwood; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

A Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Living Faith Church, 1224 N. Baird Ave, Fergus Falls.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in the First United Church of Christ Cemetery.
