Marian Reine, 97, of Evansville, died Friday, February 13, 2015, at the Evansville Care Campus.
Marian Eunice Olson was born on July 28, 1917 in Middle Creek Township, McKenzie County, North Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Thora (Hanson) Olson. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Cartwright, ND. After graduating in 1931 from public school Charbonneau, ND, the family moved to rural Erdahl, MN, and Marian was confirmed at Erdahl Lutheran Church in March of 1932.
Marian attended South High School in Minneapolis for one year, graduating from Elbow Lake High School in 1936. She worked various jobs in Bozeman, Montana for several years and was employed by Mountain States Telephone Company for three years in Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1943, Marian enlisted in the United States Navy Waves in Duluth, MN, and spent six weeks at basic training, at Hunter College, New York. She was stationed in Washington, South Carolina in the office of Communication Enlisted Personnel and was honorably discharged in February of 1946.
On December 5, 1946, Marian was united in marriage to Vernon "Bob" Reine in Elbow Lake in the parsonage.
They made their home in Holloway, MN, where Marian worked as a bookkeeper for twenty-six years in the Holloway Market Company elevator, later known as West Con. They retired in 1976 and moved to Fergus Falls for a short time, later to a cabin on Eagle Lake, near Ashby, spending many winters in Mesa, Arizona, and traveling in the southern states. In 1978, they moved into an apartment in Elbow Lake. Bob died in 2003, and Marian remained in Elbow Lake for a time, eventually moving into the Evansville Assisted Living.
Among Marian's enjoyments were their many scenic and interesting travels, nature, flowers, and gardening; sewing and crocheting. She liked organ music and the sound of big bands. She always looked forward to get-togethers and gatherings, spending time with family and friends. Marian was a member of Erdahl Lutheran Church, more recently Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby.
Marian is survived by a brother, Edward "Bing" Olson of Ashby; sister, Gloria Rezac of Breckenridge, MN; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Anderson of St. Louis Park, MN; brother-in-law, Jim (Doris) Reine of Elk River, MN and Jim Endresen of Elbow Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; sisters, Pearl (Einar) Sande, Edith (Harlow) Cunningham, Lillian (Alf) Lindquist, Irene Endresen, Devona Olson; two infant brothers; sister-in-law, Bernice Olson; and brother-in-law, Glenn Rezac.
