Malva Iverson

Malva Iverson, 97, of Dalton , died Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls .



Malva Cecil Thelma Iverson was born at home near Bricelyn , MN on Sunday morning, October 5, 1913, the daughter of Theodore and Cecelia (Peterson) Johnson. She was baptized in South Blue Earth Church by Reverend Palmer.





In 1916, the family moved to Underwood, MN and in January of 1920, moved to St. Olaf Township . This farm was across the road and down the hill from Kvam Lutheran Church . Malva attended rural School District #4 at Dalton . She was confirmed October 23, 1927 by Reverend Elias Berlie at Kvam Lutheran Church .





On June 15, 1938, Malva was married to Arnold Andrew Iverson at the church parsonage by Reverend Joseph Melby. They had one daughter, Marlene. She was a homemaker and worked alongside Arnold doing farm work. She took care of her mother-in-law for two years until her death. Then her mother lived with them for 17 years.





Malva was a lifelong member of Kvam Lutheran Church where she was involved in Ladies Aid, Sewing Circle, taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and provided information along with the church sextons on updating the cemetery.





She enjoyed being on the tractor in the field, gardening, sewing, doing word-find puzzles and spending time with family and friends.





She is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Claire) Novotny of Dalton; three grandsons, identical twins, Mark Schroeder and Matthew (Danielle) Schroeder both of Dalton and Ricky (Kim) Schroeder of Evansville; four great-grandchildren, Laila, Bradley, Austin and Kerstyn; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Arnold on July 9, 1996. Malva was the sole surviving sibling of her family of seven children, Mabel Nelson, Josie Jacobson, Hazel Veaason, Arvilla Helle, Chester Johnson and Ethel Bystol.





Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. with an 8 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church





Service: 2 p.m. Friday at Kvam Free Lutheran Church , Dalton





Clergy: Reverend Mark Johnson





Burial: Church Cemetery
