Mae Holm

October 28, 1908 — May 5, 2012

Mae Echo Holm, age 103, of Fergus Falls, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at their home in North St. Paul.

Mae was born October 28, 1908, at Wolverton, MN, second to thirteen children, to Okko and Louise Tjaden. The family later moved to Foxhome, where Mae attended school.

In 1925, the Tjaden family moved to Fergus Falls, where Mae graduated from high school in 1926. After one year of teacher's training at Fergus Falls, she taught 3 years at rural schools in Wilkin County. During this time, Mae received Jesus Christ at her Lord and personal Savior. She was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls.

On May 10, 1930, she was joined in marriage with George Holm of rural Doran, MN. They farmed in Bradford Township. While living there, Mae was active in Vukku Lutheran Church where she was Sunday school superintendent, taught Sunday school for many years and belonged to the Ladies Aid Society. She was a Bradford 4-H Club leader and belonged to the Homemakers Club.

In 1961, George and Mae retired, and moved to Fergus Falls. While Mae lived there, she taught Release Time School and worked at the Woman's Mission Circles at Zion Church. She leg home Bible Study groups, worked with child evangelism (Good News Club in her yard), and was active in women's and children's temperance groups. Mae's husband, George died in 1968.

Mae rejoined the First Baptist Church in 1970, and became active in women's circles and the church library committee.

She sold her house in 1990 and moved into an apartment. Mae loved reading, especially poetry and Bible study, flowers, house plants, gardening, quilting, sewing and cooking. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twin's games on TV, worked cross-word puzzles, and belonged to a Scrabble club. These were her favorite pastimes.

A special thank you, to local family members who for many years cared for her while she was living independently, and especially Brian Field, who was called, "My Battery Boy". We also thank Care 2000 for assisted living at Riverview Heights the past two years, before moving in 2012 to live with her daughter and her family in North St. Paul.
