Lyle Hilden

February 2, 1921 — February 12, 2011

Lyle Hilden, 90, of Fergus Falls died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Fergus Falls.

He was born February 2, 1921 in Ashby, MN to Tom and Ivy (Hoff) Hilden. He graduated from a country school in rural Ashby. He farmed with his father in Ashby until September of 1942 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Rome, Italy in the communications branch on the switchboard which he operated. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945. He was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge, he was united in marriage to Corrine Holte in December of 1945. The couple made their home on a farm near Ashby where they farmed until 1968. They then moved to Fergus Falls where Lyle was employed in the maintenance department at the Regional Treatment Center. He later worked for Victor Lundeen's, O'Mara's Department Store and the VFW. He worked at the VFW until his retirement in 1986. Lyle and Corrine were divorced in the mid 1980's.

Lyle enjoyed visiting with people, listening to old time music and wheeling and dealing with automobiles. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed going to auction sales and purchasing the "treasure" boxes and bringing them home to see what he could create. Many times, his creations were sold at rummage sales and consignment sales where he would make significantly more money than what he paid for them. He especially enjoyed his time spent with family.

He is survived by his children: Steve (Cindy) Hilden of Virginia, MN, Cheryl Hilden (Arlan Ehrich) of Fergus Falls, Paul (Angelika) Hilden of Burlington, NJ and Carol Hilden (Steve Harles) of Fergus Falls; eight grandchildren: Lesa (Jeff) Leabo, Michael (Chasity) Rude, Stephanie Rolf, Robert Petersen, Daniel Hilden, Brice Triepke, Jessica Hilden and Justine Hilden; five great-grandchildren: Tyler and Kaylee Leabo, Jordan Rude, Hannah and Hailey Hilden; and two nieces: Joyce Evavold and Linda Boe. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Diane Lehn, two sisters: Harriet Salvevold and Pearl Wahldieck and one nephew, Don Wahldieck, Jr.
