Louise Brokhausen

September 8, 1923 — August 6, 2014

Mary Louise Brokhausen, age 90, of Brandon, died on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake.

Louise was born to Louis and Sara Ann (Pastalock) Munaretto on September 8, 1923, in Osage, Illinois. As one of eight children, Louise and siblings were taught from a young age the value of hard work and family unity. Her family later moved to West Virginia, where her father worked in the coal mines and later owned a store. There she attended Welch High School. At a young age, Louise left home to work in Washington, D.C., as a waitress. She often told stories of her escapades in the big city—waiting on the likes of Errol Flynn, taking flying lessons, and dancing until dawn. She married Enos Rexford (Rex or Lucky) Bellamy in 1945 and had 4 children. They divorced. She married Donald Brokhausen of Hope, ND, in Washington, D.C. and had one child. They farmed in North Dakota, then bought Rogers, a restaurant and hotel, in Glenwood, MN. When it burned down, they moved to Wyoming to work on a ranch--she as head cook and he as maintenance--and then to Fort Collins, Colorado, where Louise worked as a cook for a fraternity. Later Louise moved back to Minnesota to be cared for by her daughter Sandy in assisted living.

Louise is survived by her children Jerry (Diane) Brokhausen, Huntington Beach, CA; Nick (Carol Shaw) Brokhausen, Palm Desert, CA; Ron (Pam) Brokhausen, Ramsey, MN; Sandy (Doug) Alvstad, Evansville, MN; Kate (Scott) Scrothe, Hope, ND; sisters Caroline (Mrs. John) Ratcliff, Huntingtown, MD, and Margaret (Abie) Hill, MD; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by parents, husbands, brothers Jack (Mary) Munaretto, WVA; Joe (Phyllis) Munaretto, IL; and Louis Munaretto, PA; sisters Annetta (Roy) Moore, IL; Yolanda (Charles) Bennett, NC; grandson, Matthew Brokhausen; nephews Roy Bennett and Joey Munaretto; and niece Yvonne Hayes.
