Lorriane Lykken

October 30, 1924 — May 3, 2017

Lorraine Lykken, 92 of Battle Lake died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

Lorraine Anderson Lykken, daughter of Harry and Clara Anderson, was born October 30th, 1924 at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo North Dakota. She was baptized on December 7th, 1924. At that time, her family was living in Walcott, North Dakota and Lorraine started her grade school education there. The family moved to Fargo in 1935 when Lorraine was eleven years old. They attended and became active members Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. Lorraine was confirmed on May 28th, 1939 Pastor J. Melvin Moe. Lorraine graduated from Fargo High School on May 19th, 1942.

After graduating from High School, Lorraine joined Fargo National Bank in 1942 where she worked in all departments over the next five years.

Sam and Lorraine met at a Luther League convention in Kindred, North Dakota. They were married on May 17th, 1947 in Olivet Lutheran church. Lorraine and Sam moved between Jamestown and Devils Lake as Sam's career advanced. Lorraine worked at James River National Bank in Jamestown, ND and on August 24th, 1950 their first child, son David was born. Three years later, on April 25th, 1953, son Daniel was born.

In 1955 they moved to Battle Lake, Minnesota when Sam purchased an Allis Chalmers dealership and later Sam purchased a second dealership in Fergus Falls, Minnesota in 1957. Sam had farming in his blood and purchased farm land to raise a small herd of cattle. In need of more farm land for his growing herd of cattle, Sam purchased farm land with lake shore frontage and started developing lake shore lots.

Lorraine was a "stay-at-home" mom until 1958 when she was offered a job at First National Bank of Battle Lake and worked there for the next 29 years. In August of 1967 she endured a traumatic bank robbery where she and other employees at gun point were locked in the bank vault. She was promoted to vice president and continued until her retirement in 1987.

Lorraine's greatest joy was spending time with family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Lorraine was a member of The First Lutheran Church of Battle Lake, Mary Circle, WELFCA Progressive Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Battle Lake Food Shelf volunteer, Bridge Club and served on the Fergus Falls Concert Board for 25 years.
