Loren Erie

October 30, 1920 — January 29, 2015

Loren Virgil Erie, 94, of Evansville, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2014 at the Evansville Care Center in Evansville, MN.

He was born near Clarkfield, MN on October 30, 1920 to Alfred and Jennie (Rudell) Erie. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1938 and attended the Wahpeton School of Science. On April 12, 1942, he married Helen Risbrudt. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in China and India during World War II.

Loren was full of energy and beloved by all who knew him. His personality suited his profession; he ran Dalton Hardware Store with his brother-in-law Ervin and was a sales representative for Colony Paints. He exercised a prodigious memory and expansive knowledge. He had a zest for travel and after he retired in 1982, he and Helen traveled extensively. During their seventy years of marriage, Loren and Helen traveled to nearly every U.S. state in their camper van. They particularly enjoyed the Southwest and Alaska where they visited national parks and befriended other travelers along the way, forging life-long friendships. When not traveling, Loren was a fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He hunted waterfowl, pheasants, and especially enjoyed fishing for walleye. He enjoyed spending long hours outside in the sun, tending his roses and vegetables. He liked listening to polka and watched Market to Market. He had an opinion on almost every topic under the sun. He was not shy in sharing his view with anyone who would listen.

Loren was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents, Alfred and Jennie, his two brothers, Alton and Oliver, and his sister, Cora.

He leaves to celebrate his memory his daughter, Julene Bescheinen, his son, Steven (Lynn), eight grandchildren, Beth (John) Haupt; Dan (Susan) Larson; Sue (Bruce) Grupe; Willie Bescheinen; Steve (KT) Bescheinen; Melissa (John) Fitzgerald; Matthew (Yaej) Erie; and Lucas Erie, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, his sister, Jane, and sisters-in-law, Wanda Risbrudt and Evelyn Risbrudt.
