Lawrence Wedll

Lawrence George Wedll was born on April 23, 1915 in Fergus Falls Township , rural Elizabeth on the family farm to parents George and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Wedll. Lawrence was baptized at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church where he was a lifetime and active member. He attended school in Elizabeth .





On November 6, 1941 Lawrence joined the United States Army serving in the South Pacific. Lawrence was united in marriage to Myrtle Boese on June 8, 1942 in Tacoma , Washington . Lawrence continued to serve in the military during WWII until his honorable discharge on October 29, 1945 with decorations of the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, and the American Defense Service Medal.





Lawrence and Myrtle returned to the family farm near Elizabeth and retired from farming 1978. Together they enjoyed seeing almost every state in the US and traveling to Europe . Lawrence was a member of the VFW in Fergus Falls where he was past commander, the American Legion, and the Elizabeth Sportsman Club. He served on the boards of the Elizabeth Creamery, Mid-Am Dairy, ASCS, National Farmers Organization, St. Elizabeth Men’s Club, Production Credit, and the VFW Color Guard which he retired from at the age of 90. Lawrence loved the farm, spending time with family and friends and wood working.





On April 6, 2010 Lawrence Wedll, 94, of Fergus Falls died at the MN Vets Home in Fergus Falls, MN.





Survivors include his wife Myrtle of 67 years; four children, Janet (Mark) Fuder of Fergus Falls, Kay (Dennis) Suchomel of Scottsdale, AZ, Donald Wedll of Bethel, AK, and Pete Wedll of Fall Brook, CA; six grandchildren, Sam Wedll, Lacey Wedll, Jourdaine Wedll, Matthew Fuder, Jessica Brown, and Amanda Fuder; four great-grandchildren, Isabel Wedll, Sam Wedll, Addison Brown, and Quade Brown; two sisters, Rita Wesenberg of North Palm Beach, FL and Irene Kumm of Farifax, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Elizabeth; three brothers and their spouses, Cecil (Modesta) Wedll, Bernard (Ione) Wedll and Walter Wedll; and a sister Theonne (John) Jennen.
