LaVerne Tenneson, 86, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, November 18, 2013, at the Broen Home.

LaVerne Helen Weinrich Tenneson was born May 24, 1927 on her parent's farm just north of Fergus Falls, MN and died November 18, 2013 at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls. She was 86 years old. Her death from kidney failure occurred after a year and a half long struggle with the disease.

Her parents were Paul and Betsey (Christofferson) Weinrich. After the death of her father in 1934, LaVerne moved with her mother and sisters into Fergus Falls where they lived in several locations. LaVerne was part of the kitchen staff of the River Inn and other restaurants in Fergus Falls before marrying George Joseph Tenneson on June 5, 1948 in Rothsay, MN. After a year of living in town, they moved to the family farm at the intersection of County Highway 88, and US 59. LaVerne and George had seven children and she remained on the farm until the summer of 2012 when she moved into the Broen Home after a lengthy hospitalization.

LaVerne was very patient with small children and always ready to play cards or Chinese Checkers. She was also an excellent cook, producing many loaves of bread, pies and canned fruit. LaVerne sewed curtains and other items for the family home as well patching numerous pairs of blue jeans, but her favorite sewing occupation was embroidery, particularly embroidered pillow cases. She was also a Minnesota Twins baseball fan.

Always an avid reader La Verne continued to read numerous novels until within a few days of her death. She joined Hedemarken Lutheran Church after her marriage and served on the altar guild. She loved house plants, and animals, caring for the family dog and many cats.

She was preceded in death by her husband George, daughter Carol, and her sisters, Bernice and Amelia. She is survived by her children, Linda G. Tenneson of Sauk Rapids, Bonnie J. (Wayne) Svare and Gene H. Tenneson of Fergus Falls, Harold L. Tenneson (Bryce) of Moorhead, Leslie A. Tenneson of Fergus Falls and Sandra M.
