Kennon Worden

Kennon Worden, 74 of Battle Lake died Sunday, October 30, 2016 at his home.

Kennon Norman Worden was born on March 31, 1942 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the son of Norman Clemens and Ruth Claire (Erickson) Worden. He was baptized in the Harmar Lutheran Church near Rothsay, MN, confirmed in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, MN, and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1960. Ken joined the U.S. Air Force, and served four years as a Radio Intercept Operator in Texas, Mississipi, Missouri and Okinawa, Japan. After his discharge, he attended Mankato State University where he received a Teaching Degree in English, and furthered his education at Moorhead State University where he earned a Masters Degree.

Ken and Sharon Lea Stankey were married on August 31, 1968 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato, MN. After their marriage, they lived in Mankato until August of 1970, when they moved to Battle Lake. Ken taught English and was a wrestling and track coach for the Battle Lake Public School until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement, he kept busy volunteering with the Battle Lake Food Shelf, Meals on Wheels program, and the Senior Companion program. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Battle Lake Lions Club. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, following Chad and Ashley's activities, and sharing a good joke with Hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two children, Chad (Jocelyn) Worden of Stacy, MN and Ashley (Aaron) Hystead of Fargo, ND; grandson, Hunter Worden of Stacy, MN; sister, Sue Strate of Glendale, AZ; and by numerous family and friends. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Memorial Service: 3:00 PM, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.

Visitation: one hour prior to services at the church

Military Honors: Minnesota National Guard

Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Battle Lake
