Kenneth Aasness, 87, of Fergus Falls died Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the Hospice House in Fergus Falls .





Kenneth Louis Aasness was born November 20, 1922, in Fergus Falls to Oscar and Emma (Halvorson) Aasness. He was baptized and confirmed at Tordenskjold Lutheran Church and attended school at District 43 in Dane Prairie Township . Kenneth served during WWII in the South Pacific.





On November 3, 1946, he married Frances Draxten. They lived in Fergus Falls where he was employed as an auto mechanic. He also worked as an equipment mechanic in road construction and was a welder for the city of Fergus Falls. For many years he bladed township roads in Dane Prairie Township . Kenneth owned and operated Ken’s Sawshop and Sawmill until the present.





Kenneth was very active in Swan Lake Lutheran Church and with the Lake Region Pioneer Threshermen’s Association. He enjoyed woodworking and was an inventor and builder of whatever was needed – if he didn’t have it, he made it. He loved nature including gardening, flowers and his lawn. He loved his work especially his sawmill.





He will be remembered for his love of God and family, his honesty and integrity, his hard working nature and creative mind and his kindness and caring of others.





He is survived by his wife, Frances; children, David (Pam) Aasness of Moorhead, Kathryn (Les) Pettit of Howard Lake, MN, Shirley (Ted) Wallace of Wrenshall, MN and Barbara Marsh of Becker, MN; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tyler) Aasness, Christine (Del) Whitman, Zachary (Sarah) Pettit and two step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Hannah Pettit and baby Aasness (Ty & Jeff) who is almost here; four step-great grandchildren and a brother, Harvey (Darlene) Aasness of Fergus Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lorraine Aasness and Edna Shores and a brother, Orville Aasness.





Memorials are preferred to Hospice House in Fergus Fallsa.





Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church





Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church , Fergus Falls





Clergy: Rev. Charles Ewan





Burial: Swan Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Dane Prairie Township, rural Fergus Falls with military rites by VFW Post 612 and American Legion Post 30 of Fergus Falls
