Jeannine Malmstrom

Jeannine Malmstrom, 87 of Battle Lake died Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

Jeannine Emilia Malmstrom was born on March 27, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Emil A. and Anna H. Madsen. She moved with her family to Battle Lake in 1946, and graduated from the Battle Lake High School in 1947. Jean then attended North Dakota State University for two years. She managed the Battle Lake Hotel for two years.

Jean and Charles Malmstrom were married on October 10, 1953, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. After their marriage they lived in Fergus Falls for five years before moving to Battle Lake. Jean worked with her parents at Madsen's Resort on Blanche Lake and in 1970, Jean and Chuck purchased the resort. She served as President of Ottertail Country Tourism Association, 101 Association and also eight years on the Board of directors of the Minnesota Resort Association. Jean was a member of the Eastern Star and the First Lutheran Church where she had served on the Church Council, and as President of WELCA. She enjoyed sewing, needle arts, knitting, bird watching and Jean loved to read.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Frode) Grefsgard of Hebekk, Norway and Andrea (John) Everts of Battle Lake; three sons, Carl Malmstrom of Detroit Lakes, Eric (Tami) Malmstrom of Battle Lake and David Malmstrom & Shawn Sullivan of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Anne (Christian) Klemmetsen, Steffen Grefsgard, Rezin Everts, Ambrose (Jessica) Everts, Julia (Joe) DeMars, Justin DeHarty and Kyle Owings; great-grandchildren, Nora and Hedda Klemmetsen; sister, Melanie Greene of Battle Lake; brother, Emil M. "Manny" (Marlys) Madsen of Battle Lake; and by numerous relatives and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Emil A. and Anna Madsen; her husband, Charles Malmstrom on March 2, 2010 and brother-in-law Patrick Greene.

A Memorial Service will be 4:00 PM Friday, October 28th at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Lakewood Cemetery by Battle Lake at a later date.

Arrangements are with the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Battle Lake.
