Jean Behrens

Jean Behrens, 91, formerly of Evansville, died Friday, January 8, 2016 at Galeon Community Home in Osakis.

She was born January 5, 1925 in Alton, IA to Theodore and Alvina (Miller) Steichen. She grew up and received her schooling in Alton. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church also in Alton. On March 9, 1944, she was united in marriage to Orval Behrens in Alton. In 1946, they moved to Worthington, MN and in 1948 to Douglas County where they farmed. In 1978, they moved into Evansville. Jean worked as a cook for the Melby Steakhouse and the Ashby Café.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sitting outside and watching and listening to the birds. She attended all of her grandchildren's activities at school.

Jean is survived by her children and their families: Gary (Sharon) Behrens of Evansville and their children, Lee Behrens, Shane Behrens and Shannon Puchalski; Barbara Behrens of Hopkins; Bonnie (Bill) Vaughan of Little Falls and their children, Sommer and Crystal Vaughan; Glenn (Linda) Behrens of Evansville and their children, Melissa White, Amanda Schmidt and Melinda Zeissel; Kenneth (Carol) Behrens of Evansville and their children, Kristi Arndt, Kevin Behrens and Kenny Behrens, Jr.; Bev (Gery) Arndt and their children, Mary Jean Lehman, Amy Krenz, Brent Arndt, Kyle Arndt, Laura Feyma and Breanna Arndt; and by her daughter-in-law, Maja Behrens and her children, Jackie Schmidt, Jennifer Young, Jessica Haller and Shyanna Behrens; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orval in 2005, a son, Keith and seven brothers and five sisters.

Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Brandon.
