Ione Finkelson

January 16, 1920 — September 10, 2013

Ione Finkelson, 93 of Brandons Assisted Living, formerly of rural Ashby died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Ione Julia Finkelson was born January 16, 1920 in Eagle Lake Township, the daughter of Ole and Julia (Tollefson) Torgrimson. Julia passed away after the birth and Ione was raised by Ole and relatives. Ione spoke Norwegian until she started school, attending the District 114 grade school.

Ione married Manfred Finkelson on October 28, 1939 at the parsonage in Battle Lake. They farmed together their entire life and had many great friends. Ione was always an active member of Grue Lutheran Church, singing with her sister, Eunice Runningen for many weddings, anniversaries, and funerals. Ione belonged to the Ladies Aid, Sewing Circle, taught Sunday school, the Sunshine Lady, and helped tie many quilts.

Ione was a wonderful cook and always had baked goods on hand. She offered everyone coffee. She was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed. She truly loved having nieces, nephews, neighbors, and family come to visit.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Manfred; her parents; two brothers, Thomas and Helmer Torgrimsom; four sisters, Alma Vikesland, Lillie Swenson, Eunice Runningen and Eunice Western; and a son-in-law, Maynard Jensen.

She is survived by a son, Curtis (Sharon) Finkelson of Alexandria; daughter, Linda Jensen of Richfield and friend, Gene McDougall of Edina; five grandchildren, Blaine Jensen, Brent (Jessica) Jensen, Teresa (Dennis) Mohs, Keith (Jennifer) Finkelson and Sheila (Kent) Larson; eight great-grandchildren, Stacey Jensen (Steven Snyder), Conor Jensen, Brittany Mohs, Jordan Mohs, and Nicole Mohs, Hunter Finkelson, Austin Finkelson, Melania Larson; three great great-grandchildren, Urijah, Makenzie and Tanner Snyder; sister-in-law, Doris (Wayne) Akerman, and very special nephews and nieces; relatives and friends.


Funeral: 11 am Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Grue Lutheran Church of rural Ashby

Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm with a 6:30 pm Prayer Service at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Ashby and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Clergy: Rev. Carol Olson

Cemetery: Grue Cemetery, rural Ashby
